Our Future Resource Management System Information Session

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Over the last eighteen months, the Government has been delivering on its promise to build a new resource management system that is fit for the future and provides better outcomes for our natural and built environments.

There is an overwhelming consensus that the Resource Management Act (RMA) is simply not working as it was intended.  It has not adequately protected the environment nor enabled development, both rural and urban, where needed. There is an urgent need to address these issues and create a resource management system that protects and provides for the wellbeing of future generations.

We recognise that change can be challenging but it is vital that we continue to progress these reforms that are well overdue. This Government is committed to repealing the RMA and enacting new legislation - a Natural and Built Environments Act and a Strategic Planning Act (SPA) this parliamentary term. The new Bills are to be introduced into Parliament this October with a select committee following shortly afterwards.

As key stakeholders of the current and future resource management system, we would like to invite you to join us at one of our series of information sessions so we can share with you what the future resource management system looks like and give you an opportunity to ask questions.

We also encourage you to forward this invite to people in your networks that may also be interested in the resource management reforms.

Register to attend one of our online information sessions about New Zealand's Future Resource Management System.
