From 3 Nov 2023, new changes to the National Environmental Standards for Commercial Forestry apply. These changes relate to afforestation (new forest planting) and reforestation (planting after harvest activity) for commercial (plantations and carbon) and continuous cover canopy exotic forests. It includes the role of councils in permitting activity which includes where forests can be planted, where they can’t be planted, the spaces where forests connect with fresh water, harvesting activities, and slash management.
